When will Asuu Strike End

ASUU’s board of executive has been meeting with the Federal Government to put an end to the ungoing strike. For some days now there has been a series of meetings, however, looking at the current situation,it seems that the meeting could “not even move an ant”.

As the report will have it, Academic Staff Union Of universities Agreed to deliberate on the offer made by the Federal Government and maybe end the strike.

In attendance were the Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Education, Sunny Echono; the national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba; Officials from the National Universities Commission, Head of Service and Salaries, Wages and Income commission.
Also in attendance was Federal Government delegation, which was led by Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, representing the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

On starting the meeting, Mr Ngige expressed belief that the outcome of the meeting will be favorable, as the Federal Government has beeen up and doing since the last meeting in 2018.Laying emphasis on that he hope the student resume as soon as possible.

The outcome of the meeting was that the FG will release to ASUU the sum of N15.4bn for salary shortfall. Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Ngige also pointed out that Federal Government is also in the process of releasing another N20 billion for payment of earned allowances for university lecturers.

The ASUU President on his own part agreed to take the new propositions to members of the Union, and only then will the decision to either call the strike off or continue resting at home, will be reached
